Ms. Asima Jahangir, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights in Iran, announced in her speech before the Human Rights Council about a comprehensive and independent investigation into the massacre of political prisoners in 1988 in Iran.
She said: we have to move forward, I would like to suggest that we must take a look back, in this regard, a significant number of petitions, communications, and documents related to the massive executions of thousands of Iranian political prisoners, men, women, and teenagers in 1988. This is a matter of deep agonizing of the victims' families after almost three decades, which must definitely be studied, these murders have been confirmed by some current senior Iranian officials. I receive almost daily letters from the family members of those who have been killed in the massacre and that they are dead and they want to be answered. Family victims are deserved for compensation and they must know the truth about the fate of their relatives without any risking of retaliation and being revenge by the authorities.
So, I emphasize my call to ensure that a comprehensive and independent investigation is carried out on these events.
